Opening Keynote: “Collective Action: Exploring the Cybersecurity Responsibilities and Capabilities of Industry, Government, and Individuals”
Speaker: Ryan Gillis, Vice President, Cybersecurity, Strategy and Global Policy, Palo Alto Networks
Ryan Gillis joined Palo Alto Networks in January 2015, and serves as Vice President of Cybersecurity Strategy and Global Policy. Ryan is responsible for developing company corporate policy, serving as Palo Alto Networks’ primary point of contact for public policy and legislative matters, and ensuring appropriate company participation in government forums and industry initiatives. He works closely with government agencies and companies around the world to assist in the development of strategies operational partnerships to prevent against cybersecurity threats.
Prior to joining Palo Alto Networks, Ryan was Director of Legislative Affairs and Cybersecurity Policy for the National Security Council at the White House. In this role, he primarily worked on the development and implementation of national cybersecurity strategy, policy, legislation, and operational initiatives. Ryan also fostered cybersecurity collaboration and dialogue between the federal government, industry, and privacy advocates.
From 2006 to 2012, Ryan held a number of positions in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) managing portfolios that included cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection. Prior to his government service, Ryan spent several years at both technology startup and defense contracting companies.
Additionally, Ryan is a Stephen M. Kellen Term Member with the Council on Foreign Relations, and was recently named to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Cyber Policy Task Force. He is also a member of the Board of Advisors for CyberTECH, a global cybersecurity and Internet of Things (IoT) network ecosystem. Ryan is a recipient of the National Security Council “Outstanding Service Award,” and a graduate of Georgetown University.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in management information systems from Iowa State University, and a Master of Science degree in security informatics from The Johns Hopkins University.

Pamela Warren is the Director of Government & Industry Initiatives at Palo Alto Networks where her team assists customers and develops industry markets – from government to SCADA networks to retail – that need innovative security solutions to their swiftly changing networks. She has spent her entire career in the security industry, serving both the U.S. Intelligence Community and the private sector. During her tenure in private industry, she was McAfee’s Cybercrime Strategist and Director of Critical Infrastructure Protection initiatives and has worked on other key government initiatives in companies across Silicon Valley. Throughout her career, she has engaged government leaders, industry CIOs, Chief Privacy Officers and the law enforcement community to help facilitate the exchange of innovative ideas on the global issues of cybercrime and data loss. Pamela regularly speaks at industry events, has testified on the U.S Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, has served on many industry and government security forums, and serves on the Computer Crimes and Digital Evidence (CCDE) subcommittee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Recently, she was honored with the Executive Women Forum's “Women of Influence” award for private industry. She holds a Master’s degree in telecommunications from the George Washington University, and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP).

Taylor Ettema is product manager for threat prevention technologies for Palo Alto Networks, the California-based network security company that pioneered the next-generation firewall. Before joining Palo Alto Networks, Taylor was a principal software engineer and program manager for electronic warfare research and development programs for Raytheon Company, a defense contractor headquartered in Waltham, MA.
Taylor holds a B.S. in physics from University of California at Los Angeles, and an M.S. in computer science from University of California at Santa Barbara, and has been published in the Journal of the IEEE/ACM International Conference on Automated Software Engineering.

Bruce brings over 20 years of security experience to the Palo Alto Networks team serving as Palo Alto’s Cyber Security Product Specialist on the Endpoint Security team. Bruce has spoken at multiple industry events throughout his career and has worked in more than 20 countries around the world.
