GENERAL SESSIONS

Using Analytics to Achieve Your Mission

In today's federal government, performance management is only possible with an understanding of data analytics. With the increasing demand for federal programs and the growing budget constraints placed on agencies implementing these programs, getting access to and making sense of the volumes of collected data is vital in ensuring success in daily operations and overall program execution.

In her keynote address, Kathryn Stack, Advisor for Evidence-Based Innovation at the Office of Management and Budget, discusses the need for federal agencies to modernize their data infrastructure and data management processes in order to support program improvement, understanding and implementation. Kathryn highlights examples of how agencies are using analytics to more efficiently and effectively ensure they are driving the best outcomes for the taxpayers they serve.

Predictive Analytics: Delivering on the Promise of Big Data

The excitement over "big data" has grown dramatically. But what is the value, the function, the purpose? The most actionable win to be gained from data is prediction. This is achieved by analytically learning from data how to render predictions for each individual. Such predictions drive more effectively the millions of operational decisions that government agencies make every day. In this keynote, Predictive Analytics World founder and Predictive Analytics author Eric Siegel reveals how predictive analytics works, and the ways in which it delivers value to federal organizations.

BUDGET AND FINANCE

Mission-Based Budgeting: Changing the Focus to Mission

A traditional federal budgeting process typically asks “where can we cut?” But this premise serves agencies poorly today and in the foreseeable future because the focus remains on funding levels rather than on the mission. The question that results-based budgeting asks is “what can we most effectively accomplish at our current funding level?”

In this session, learn how true, results-based budgeting – which ties budget allocations to key agency goals and metrics -- can improve organizational performance while meeting the challenges of federal budgeting.

BIG DATA ANALYTICS

Making Sense of Big Data

Each day brings news of more and more astounding statistics about the rise of “big data." While federal agencies are struggling to make sense out of their big data challenges, the answer lies not in organizing and evaluating big data, but in the insights that can be found within it. Insights that can help you meet mission goals such as better healthcare, improved public safety, crime prevention, national security and improved environmental health.

Delivering Anticipatory Analytics at NGA

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) delivers world-class geospatial intelligence that provides a decisive advantage to policymakers, warfighters, intelligence professionals and first responders. Anyone who sails a U.S. ship, flies a U.S. aircraft, makes national policy decisions, fights wars, locates targets, responds to natural disasters, or even navigates with a cell phone relies on NGA.

A key strategic objective for the agency is, by 2017, to provide an innovative range of anticipatory analytic products and services that make a measurable difference in outcomes for customers. Key to achieving this goal is the agency’s use of the IBM SPSS product suite. In this session, learn how NGA is using this suite to tap legacy databases, build advanced analytics scenario’s against both structured and unstructured text, and deliver embedded insights to its customers.
