Tech in the Classroom: An Education Policy Briefing sponsored by Samsung.

Tech in the schools is a major factor in policymakers' thinking about how to reshape K-12 education.

During his State of the Union address, President Obama called on Congress to commit new resources to create a master teacher corps that specializes in science, technology, engineering and math to produce 10,000 additional STEM teachers. He also proposed a new competition to spur renovations in high schools that emphasize real-world learning.

In a National Press Club speech last fall, Education Secretary Arne Duncan said that one area he plans to focus on during President Obama's second term is increasing the use of technology in the classroom.

It is expected that the 113th Congress will take up legislation on a few bills regarding technology in the classroom. It's a huge part of how policymakers would like to reshape K-12 education. Confirmed keynote speakers are Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA). Panelists include Gary Shapiro, CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association; Gov. Bob Wise, President of the Alliance for Excellent Education; Richard Culatta, Acting Director of the Office of Educational Technology at the U.S. Department of Education; and Ron Packard, Founder and CEO of K12, Inc.
